Kengeleni Primary School
Completed in 2004 at a cost of Ksh 13.6M
The existing buildings and sheds were of a very poor quality with much use of cardboard and corrugated tin sheets.
The school had 450 children and just one pit latrine.
We decided that this project would require all new buildings rather than renovations.
So we built 10 new classrooms with power supply and lighting. A new library, staff room, administrative offices and toilets within a fully walled compounded expanded the school to a capacity of 750 children.
As part of our on-going commitment to our past projects we were pleased to use a donation from Ashmount Primary School, as part of their Running Water Appeal, towards a borehole and water-storage tank at Kengeleni Primary School.
We thank Jamil Martin, who is a teacher at Ashmount (and a nephew of Sugu Anjarwalla), for channeling these funds to us.
We will use the remainder of the donation to refurbish and extend the toilets that are proving inadequate due to the increased student intake. In September we completed some renovations to the existing toilet facilities at Kengeleni Primary School. There are many more students than were originally anticipated and the facilities were proving inadequate.
We extended the urinal in the Boys’ toilets and added four new cubicles for the Girls. Each got a dedicated washing trough.
With the extension we had to relocate the Staff Toilet on the First Floor (which gave us the opportunity to provide a Deputy-Head office while leaving sufficient space for the library/resource centre) and built a new store.
